Overview
The 5 Days Congo Gorillas and Nyiragongo trek Safari starts by heading straight into Virunga National Park, a place of ethereal swirling mists and steamy green forests and, of course, home to the magnificent mountain gorilla. Next: hike to the top of Mount Nyiragongo, DRC’s towering volcanic massif, and set up camp on the edge of the world overlooking the fiery red lava lake. End your DRC adventure with an evening on the edge of Lake Kivu. Swim in croc-free clear waters, kayak or relax at this lake and enjoy your 5 Days Congo Gorillas and Nyiragongo trek Safari.
Day 1: Pick up from your hotel to Virunga Mountains
On this day, our guide will pick you from your hotel after your morning breakfast and hit the road for the Virunga Mountains to your camp.
There aren’t many camps that have a location as wonderful as Bukima. Meaning ‘The place where there are monkeys’, the camp certainly lives up to its name and in fact, goes one better with its proximity to the utterly magnificent mountain gorillas of Virunga National Park.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking
This morning will begin with an early breakfast and later transfer to the ranger station, where guests are briefed about the trek that lies ahead. Then the magic begins! The trek generally lasts around two hours, and clients will be guided towards a habituated family of gorillas.
Once these great apes are located, guests are able to spend a full hour in their company, marveling at their beauty, intelligence and, often, cheekiness! Each family group will often have youngsters in tow, making for particularly adorable photo opportunities, but the real stars must be the stunning silverbacks, the dominant male gorillas.
Later in the afternoon, guests are welcome to relax at the lodge or visit the famous gorilla orphanage – a humbling and emotional place to visit.

Day 3: Mt Nyiragongo Volcano trek
After breakfast at Bukima camp, the guest will be transported to the Kibati Ranger Post, the departure point for the Nyiragongo volcano trek. On arrival at Kibati, climbers will receive a briefing and have the opportunity to hire porters. The climb up the volcano takes around four to six hours and trekkers with overnight at the summit.

Day 4: Descend from the top of Nyiragongo
After your early morning breakfast, you will slope down the mountains. Once at the bottom, guests will be taken back to Goma with drop-off at the Grande Barriere. Included in this package: Volcano trek permit, transport to and from Kibati Ranger Post, one night stay on Nyiragongo summit Not included in this package: Nyiragongo backpack, porter fees, gratuities and anything of a personal nature.You will later proceed to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi for relaxation.

Day 5: Transfer from Gisenyi to Kigali
You will have an early morning breakfast and hit the road for Kigali city back to the airport or your hotel in Kigali depending on your flight schedule. You will have lunch en route.
Also, we can visit the Kigali genocide memorial at an extra fee if you are interested.
