Unlike Gorilla trekking that limits ones interaction with the gorillas to only one hour, Gorilla Habituation allows you to have over 4 hours in the company of the Mountain Gorillas.
Since this kind of experience is hardly existent in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, one can only find it inside the Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. It is here that over 22 habituated Gorilla families/ groups are available in the park.
However, only two groups at Nkuringo and Rushaga were set aside as the gorilla families available for Gorilla Habituation. During this process, the people get to understand the gorillas deeper and individually.
Gorilla Habituation
During the habituation process, Gorillas are tested to know their behaviors and even reach a point of naming every single one of them. In the end, if the researchers are certain that the wild gorillas are okay with the presence of people, a mock exercise is done as a way of testing to prove their facts. When the gorillas pass this kind of exercise which now includes journalists and scientists, the gorilla group is then available for trekking.
Guests doing the Gorilla Habituation get a Golden opportunity to experience a lot of this and more as they learn the behaviors of these Gorillas.
You will have your lunch immediately after this experience because you won’t even want to miss a single second of the time.
Later, you will return to the lodge and rest abit till evening. Then you will have a community visit to the Batwa group that are the first people to live in these forest and still reside there regardless of the many years of civilization. You will be amazed by their traditional dance, homes, dress-code and way of life. You will then return back to the lodge for dinner and rest till the following day.
